SoftBank Group Corp. said on Sept. 30 that it completed the acquisition of all outstanding common stock of DigitalBridge Group, Inc., a Boca Raton, Florida-based alternative asset manager focused on digital infrastructure, for approximately $3.1 billion, according to a SoftBank press release.
DigitalBridge is now a controlled SoftBank subsidiary and will keep operating as a separately managed platform led by Chief Executive Officer Marc Ganzi, SoftBank said. SoftBank will fold DigitalBridge's results into its consolidated accounts from the close date and pointed readers to a DigitalBridge Form 8-K filed with the SEC that day.
What DigitalBridge owns
DatacenterDynamics reported that DigitalBridge manages more than $108 billion of assets, with stakes in data-center platforms including AIMS, AtlasEdge, DataBank, Switch, Takanock, Vantage Data Centers and Yondr Group, plus towers and fiber. DCD said the closing does not transfer ownership of those portfolio companies themselves and that DigitalBridge will delist from the New York Stock Exchange after being taken private.
The companies first announced the transaction in December 2025. Telecoms.com said the completed cash deal was in line with the original $16-per-share structure and that regulatory approvals cleared in the days before closing.
SoftBank's release describes DigitalBridge's mandate as investing across digital infrastructure — campus compute facilities, wireless towers, fiber routes, small cells and edge sites. SoftBank listed DigitalBridge's founding year as 2016 in its acquisition summary table; DCD noted the modern DigitalBridge brand grew out of Colony Capital's earlier combination with Ganzi's Digital Bridge platform.
Deal structure
Telecoms.com reported that SoftBank and DigitalBridge secured the remaining regulatory approvals in the week before closing and that the completed cash consideration matched the $16-per-share framework announced when the parties struck the agreement. SoftBank's Sept. 30 release stated the purchase price as approximately $3.1 billion for all outstanding common stock.
SoftBank's closing statement was brief. It did not list DigitalBridge portfolio names or restate earlier strategic commentary about AI infrastructure. Industry coverage after the close, including DatacenterDynamics, filled in the asset-management footprint and the NYSE delisting that follows a take-private.
What's next
DigitalBridge continues under Ganzi with SoftBank as parent. SoftBank said DigitalBridge's books consolidate from Sept. 30. Portfolio companies named by DatacenterDynamics stay as separately held investments, not SoftBank-owned operating units, under the terms described in that report. SoftBank's release also pointed to DigitalBridge's Form 8-K for more deal detail.
